Smt. Nirmala Rajesh is a New Jersey-based, Carnatic vocalist, violinist and the Director of Sruthiswara School Of Music who was initiated into this art at a very young age. Her many years of childhood instruction in vocal music led her to the pursuit of a B.A. degree from Queen Mary’s Arts College in Chennai. She has learned vocal from gurus that hail from the parampara of Vidwan. Semmangudi Sreenivasa Iyer and currently pursuing advance violin instruction from Violinist kalaimani Smt. Charulatha Ramanujam. She has participated in many music competitions, was featured in Sun TV’s “SaptaSwarangal” program and was even named once as “Best Teenage Artist”. Aside from being a student and a performer, Nirmala has also been a teacher of vocal Carnatic music both in person and online to a large group of students over the past 15 years. Professionally, Nirmala holds two (2) Master’s degree.
Born and raised in the U.S., Mr. Rajesh Nathan is one of the director of Sruthiswara school of music, began his formal training in Carnatic vocal music at the age of 7 and continued learning from late Mrs.Balambal Natarajan. He is currently under the tutelage of Vidwan A.S.Murali a senior disciple of Vidwan P.S. Narayanaswamy. He has won prizes in music competitions, performed for many NJ local organizations, given mini concerts and was also recognized twice by CMANA for his many years of service to the organization as a junior volunteer. He is also well versed in singing western choir music and has travelled overseas for many performances.
Both Rajesh and Nirmala have had their most recent vocal training from musicians such as Sri. Neyveli Santhanagopalan, Kanyakumari, Sri. VittalRamaurthy, A S. Murali. The couple has performed as a duet at many functions held by various local organizations and temples over the last 7 years and has given a couple of concerts to date – the first of which was during the 2012 December music festival season in Chennai. Additional concerts were given at the 2015 annual TFAS Trimurthy Day celebrations and at the 2016 CMANA local talent series.
